I just purchased a Garmin eTrex 20 handheld GPS (released in late September 2011) and I decided to do a quick user review of it. This is my first GPS device, which means I can’t do a relative comparison with other units. So, based on its own merits, here are my comments on the eTrex 20: 1. Build quality is solid, and when loaded with batteries it has a nice, reassuring heft to it. Dark grey areas are rubberized for wear resistance. USB connection is hidden under a rubber weather-resistant flap, and the micro-SD slot is protected inside the battery compartment, which are thoughtful design features. 2. The glassy LCD screen is tad reflective when viewed under direct sunlight. 3. Ability to decode both GPS and GLONASS satellite signals is a very useful feature. In the field, it takes less than a minute to get a position fix, and the precision is quite good, around 4 metres at best. 4. It works well inside vehicles too, I’ve tried it in buses and get practically instantaneous position and speed readings. It will definitely work as a car GPS, though that is not its intended function.

I want one that is accurate, has a color screen, can store pocket queries information for paperless geocaching, and has an averaging feature to help in placing geocaches.

I need one that is waterproof and affordable. I am buying this for my boyfriend for our 5 year anniversary so we can do some exploring this summer. I don’t mind spending more money if it is better, I just am very clueless about geocaching and need some advice.

Waypoints, downloads, etc. I plan on doing some geocaching

Or Geocaching or geocacheing or geo-caching ?

I it a good gps for geocaching or not? What are your thoughts?
Is not i sorry

Alright I will give you some of the details:
I want a good Garmin Handheld GPS device for Geocaching. I will be buying the Handheld GPS new from Amazon because I can save some money.

The GPS device I want is either a GPSMAP 60CSx or a Colorado 300 (or maybe one of the other Colorado ones.) I will be mostly Geocaching in parks, urban areas, and wooded areas. I think I might buy some sort of mapping software to put on the GPS I buy (I don’t know which one, if you have some good advice on a great one that would be greatly appreciated.) Both the GPSMAP 60CSx and The Colorado 300 cost under 0 new on Amazon. I am wiling to spend 0 and maybe more if another GPS device as broought to my attention as being better in some way than the ones I just listed.

The reason I want one of these good GPS’s is if I purchase one and when I receive it it doesn’t do what I wanted to do, or it doesn’t do it well I will be angry.

Please help me decide on which handheld Garmin GPS I should purchase.

I am looking for a handheld GPS unit that I can do three things with 1) go exploring in the woods 2) Get into Geocaching 3) take a trip to Europe or other places that I’ve never been and be able to find my way home.
