Like a Tom Tom or Garmin, car gps system. Do you have to pay a subscription fee, or just buy the item and it will work.

I’m embarking on a trip from North Carolina to Ohio at the end of the month and I’d like to purchase a new car GPS system. I have very limited knowledge of how they work in general, but it is my understanding that the battery life is 3-4 hours. How does one use the GPS on a 9 hour drive? Should I shut down the GPS in situations where I’m perhaps on one highway for several hours?

Also, any GPS recommendations? Thank you!

Does a Car GPS system need a SD card to work? I have one and has an SD port and does not work
well,it’s been written on the slot GPS SD,and the manual doesnt give any detail about it
I can’t call the seller,’cuz I simply live in Iraq, where there are no direct sellers !

I am looking to buy my fiancee a GPS for her birthday. We also love golf and have considered getting a GPS for golfing alone. That said, is there a GPS out there that could double as a "most of the time" in-car GPS system and then could get pulled easily from the car and put into our golf cart at the course? Price is not a huge object (though I don’t have an infinite budget). The main feature is the in-car GPS, but I would love to get one that could be used on the course as well with pretty widerange course map support. Thanks in advance!!!

I recently bought a magellan maestro 3250. It works great and looks great. One problem…..This ‘Maestro’ doesn’t hold contact information. unlike other gps systems, you can’t have an address book where you can type in the phone number and the persons address. Basically, I am looking for a car gps system that has exactly everything that the maestro 325 has, plus the "address book" option. thanks alot!! please let me know whats out there

Please include pros and cons for the car GPS system too. What are some problems you have encountered with your I-Phone’s GPS or car GPS? Please give me details so I can make obeservations about the two GPS systems and further my research.

My brother-in-law STATES (no idea how this works….) that his car gps system does not require any downloading of maps.. and that it updates by itself automatically through the use of satellites. That sounded great to me, but from what I’m seeing.. there’s nothing like that on the market. I would like to get my boyfriend a navigation system for Christmas and I’m wondering if this type of system actually exists because I think it would be of much more use to him. Thank you :)
