56 14.5ft Lone Star Commander 58 Evinrude Fast Twin Only 24 mph on GPS
shape of the boat or poorly trimmed… compared to the other boats I tested with GPS… maybe it gave a smooother ride … back to the 30hp I guess or maybe TWIN FASTTWINS are in order ?

GPS says 24mph in this config 18hp from tiller
GPS says 24mph, 14.5ft boat 18hp from tiller
I have the same 1957 Evinrude 18 and on my 1958 Alumacraft 14 ft boat I get 25mph on GPS, which I thought was a little slow.
Do you think the boat is slow because it’s just an 18hp motor? Or that the older motor is slow for an 18 horse? I’m thinking about putting a 1990’s model Merc on the back of my 14 ft Alumacraft flatbottom. Should I expect top speeds around 25 like y’all? Or should I be able to go a bit faster? Thanks. I’m new I the boat owner thing.
@huntinpreacherman I posted another video “SHOOTOUT” (take a look) where I put that same 18hp and a 6hp on 3 other boats, 14ft Alumacraft F-7, 12 ft Aeorcraft P, and a 12ft Bluestar on the same day and tested with same load with GPS, they were all about the identical speeds, this boat being deeper was a 2 mph slower.

These boats are so light and fast it’s a blast to drive. I have a 55 Johnson on my 14′ Coronado. You can’t open it up all the way unless it’s dead calm.
24 mph’s not too shabby, have you ever tried adjusting the trim ?You might pickup a few mph although I don’t believe you’ll ever break 30 mph.My 14′ seaking w18hp Johnson runs about 26/28 mpn which is plenty fast for this type of boat
If all you’re looking for is speed, put a prop with more pitch to it. Might not work as well if you load the boat up as with current prop, but with that light load of one person, you can surely go to a higher pitched prop for more speed.
@richardwernst …. well it was more of part of a test of 4 boats that I have to see how they all went with a similar load and motor.
@mnkelsner
Ah, that’s sure a good test. 4 boats, eh? I’m jealous…
youtube.com/user/mnkelsner#p/u/33/uAGxquG3NV4 we ran these 3 boats on another lake about a week earlier than this video… dont be jealous it’s not the number of boats its how you use them that counts
the aerocraft is my favorite that boat is built really well…
